Before reaching the consumer, the production of beverage cartons in Europe includes successive steps, starting for the most part in the Nordic forests and involving all ACE member companies.
Paper companies Stora Enso and BillerudKörsnas procure wood, a renewable resource, and manufacture paperboard, the core material of beverage cartons. This is then sold to the beverage carton manufacturers.
Tetra Pak, SIG Combibloc, and Elopak then design, coat, and print packaging material according to requirements of the food and drink companies as well as the retailers. As packaging 'system' suppliers, they provide these customers not only with the packaging material, but also the equipment and filling machines. In doing so, all ACE member companies pursue high standards of environmental stewardship.
